College of Pharmacy Dean Donald Letendre recently announced the 2014 Alumni Award recipients. Honorees will be recognized during the college’s annual alumni recognition dinner on October 10.
The Osterhaus Medal for Lifetime Achievement is presented annually to one or more individuals who have made extraordinary achievements in the pharmacy profession. This medal is a premier award given by the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy, for a recipient who has advanced the practice of pharmacy in profound ways, or made substantial strides in drug development or drug discoveries. This year’s recipient is TJ Johnsrud, ’66 BSPh, of Conrad, Iowa. Johnsrud will present the annual Osterhaus Symposium on October 9. Please contact Kayla Lalor if you are interested in attending.
The Distinguished Alumni Award is presented to annually to up to two individuals who have made distinguished contributions to the theory and practice of pharmacy or have demonstrated major accomplishments in a professional pharmacy practice, or in pharmaceutical research and development. Dennis Erb, ’84 PhD, of Harleysville, Pennsylvania, and Steve Mullenix, ’74 BSPh, of Parker, Colorado, are the 2014 honorees.
Jim Otterbeck of Naples, Florida, and Bob Greenwood of Waterloo, Iowa, will be presented with the Honorary Alumni Award. This award annually honors friends of the college for their personal contribution toward pharmacy achievement, leadership and service to the profession, the society and the college. These alumni inspire our students and provide role models for the next generation of pharmacists.
The college’s newest award, the Genesis Award, will be bestowed upon Kuby Balagurunathan, ’00 PhD, of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Nora Stelter, ’00 PharmD, Urbandale, Iowa. The Genesis Award honors graduates of the past 15 years who have achieved early distinction in their field. Two Genesis Awards are presented annually.
