Researchers from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy have studied what helps and hinders pharmacists using the prescription refill encounter to help patients take medications more safely and effectively. This report details the interaction between the pharmacists’ orientation toward problem solving, the busy pharmacy environment, and the routine nature of these  encounter based on interviews with 12 Iowa community pharmacists. The study was published in the Journal of the American Pharmacists Association.
