Matthew Witry earned his PharmD and PhD in Pharmaceutical Socioeconomics from the University of Iowa, where he also received a certificate in College Teaching from the College of Education. Witry currently is assistant professor in the department of Health Services Research. Witry collaborates with colleagues in the UIHC Department of Internal Medicine and E-Health Center and The Iowa City VA.

Research Narrative

Dr. Witry’s research focuses on the medication monitoring and patient-pharmacists interactions in community pharmacy practice. His current research focuses understanding pharmacist role perceptions in the refill process, including perspectives and approaches to improving medication adherence. Witty also is examining medication list concordance for veterans using both VA and non-VA health care services. Dr. Witry also is interested in using technology to obtain information from patients about their medication use experiences and integrating the data into community pharmacy workflows.
