This talk will delve into Indigenous healing processes that emphasize interconnectedness. Sessions will explore the compatibility of individuals with others, the spiritual world, and the social structure. The holistic approach to health will be highlighted, showcasing how Indigenous health interventions address individual care and encompass activities aimed at restoring social and spiritual balance.

College of Pharmacy students from the American College of Veterinary Pharmacists will volunteer at the Safe Haven of Iowa County Animal Shelter. Pharmacy students can sign up here. 

This talk will explore various facets of cultural preservation, including discussing language revitalization efforts of the Kalinago language and strategies to ensure its survival and transmission to future generations.

This insightful panel will discuss forging partnerships for community-based solutions to advance health equity. The shared vision and values of the community will be emphasized, empowering individuals to shape outcomes actively. The importance of diverse collaboration will be underscored, including collaborations with public health agencies, community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, and businesses.

UI-SSHP is collaborating with the Iowa City Public Library to present on caffeine and its effects with a focus on teenagers and parents.  This event is geared towards educating teenagers on the consumption of caffeine and the possible effects on the body. This event will include a brief presentation, a trivia game, and answering caffeine/health related questions. The Zada Cooper Leadership Symposium honors a true pioneer: Zada Mary Cooper. Cooper graduated from the UI College of Pharmacy in 1897 and continued as a faculty member until retiring in 1942. She was considered a master teacher, mentor, and innovator who was inspirational to her students. She advocated for women in pharmacy, for patients, and to strengthen standards in pharmacy education. Please join us as we celebrate the PharmD Class of 2024. Susan Vos, PharmD, FAPhA, will deliver the 2024 Doctor of Pharmacy Commencement address. Vos is senior director of Student Affairs at the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy. She is an adjunct professor for the UI College of Pharmacy, and former clinical professor and associate dean of Student Affairs of the College. Doors will open one hour prior to ceremony start.
