Q: What are the course prerequisites for entry into the PharmD program?

Rhetoric: 8 sh
General Chemistry with lab: 8 sh
Calculus: 3 - 4 sh
General Biology with lab: 8 sh
Organic Chemistry: 6 sh
Human Anatomy: 3 sh
Human Physiology: 3 - 4 sh
Microbiology with lab: 4 sh
Statistics: 3 sh

Physics: 1 year high school or 1 semester college with lab

Q: What GPA do you require for admission?
A: You must have at least a 2.5 PharmCAS cumulative GPA to apply (however, most accepted students have a 3.0 or higher).
Q: What are the application procedures?
A: You must apply using PharmCAS, and submit official transcripts, two letters of reference, and PCAT scores directly to PharmCAS. The PCAT must be taken before December 1, 2011. In February interviews will be held for a select number of students. A supplemental application and $100 supplemental application fee is required for all applicants.
Q: When is the application deadline?
A: The deadline for Fall 2012 admission is December 1, 2011.
Q: Do you have rolling admissions?
A: No, all applications submitted by the application deadline will receive full consideration.
Q: When will I find out if I’ve been accepted?
A: Interviewed candidates are notified of admission as decisions are made by the Admissions Committee during April and May.
Q: How many students are enrolled in the program each year?
A: Approximately 108 students are enrolled each Fall.
Q: How many students apply each year?
A: We received approximately 708 applications for Fall 2011.
Q: Do you accept transfer students?
A: Yes, for 2011 51% of entering students were transfer students.
Q: Do you accept out-of-state students?
A: Yes, for 2011 32% of entering students were not Iowa residents.

A: Yes.
Q: What is your placement rate?
A: Our placement rate continues to be 100%.
Q: What is your retention rate?
A: Our retention rate is very high as we select students who are well-prepared for the rigorous curriculum.
Q: What percent of students pass their licensure exams?
A: For the past 10 years, our students have had a 96-100% passing rate on all licensure exams.
Q: What is tuition for the PharmD Program?
A: 2011-2012 tuition and mandatory fees for the College of Pharmacy are $10,692 per semester for Iowa residents. Non-resident tuition and mandatory fees are $19,294 per semester. Fourth year PharmD students must also pay tuition and mandatory fees for the summer semester, as the fourth year consists of three semesters of clinical rotations taken for academic credit. In addition, a $100.00 per semester course fee is assessed each of the first six semesters of the Doctor of Pharmacy program for the Pharmacy Practice Lab course. Elective courses taken within or outside the College of Pharmacy may also incur a course fee.
