Richard Hartig is the owner, chairman, and chief executive officer of Hartig Drug Stores, a regional pharmacy chain headquartered in Dubuque, Iowa. His affiliated companies include MedOne Healthcare Systems, Finley-Hartig Homecare, and Hartig Pharmacy Services.
He is a licensed pharmacist in Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin.
Mr. Hartig is a director of the Iowa College Foundation, the American Trust and Savings Bank, and the National Association of Chain Drug Stores. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees at Drake, in addition to a number of not-for-profit organizations.
In 2001, Mr. Hartig and his wife Brenda established the Hartig Scholarship Fund in support of pharmacy student scholarships at the University of Iowa. They are members of Iowa’s President’s Club, the Dean’s Club, The 1885 Society, and their company is a Corporate Sponsor of the College of Pharmacy. Mr. Hartig is also a frequent contributor to The Dean’s Forum.
He was a recipient of Drake’s College of Pharmacy Alumni Achievement Award (1998), The Weaver Medal of Honor (2006), the National Alumni Association’s Distinguished Service Award (2009), University of Iowa College of Pharmacy Honorary Alumni Award (2011), and was recently inducted into the Tri-State Business Hall of Fame (2012)
Mr. Hartig holds two degrees from Drake, a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and an Master of Business Administration.
Dick is married to Brenda (University of Iowa, ‘79), and they have two children, Charles (Drake PharmD, ’09, SLU Law '12) and Wesley (University of Dayton ‘10).
