On Friday, October 10, six of the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy’s alumni and friends were honored during the annual recognition dinner. These awardees are representative of just some of the college's alumni and friends who have moved on to make great strides in their pharmacy practice, research,  and community advancement, all the while being tireless advocates for the profession of pharmacy and the college.

Two Distinguished Alumni Awards are presented annually. One award is given for achievement in professional practice, and one for achievement in the academic community or in industry. This year’s honorees were Dennis Erb, ’84 PhD, and Stephen Mullenix, ’74 BSPh.

Additionally, the college selected two recipients for the 2014 Honorary Alumni Award. The criteria are similar to that of the Distinguished Alumni Award, however the recipient is not a graduate of the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy. Robert Greenwood and James Otterbeck were the recipients of this year’s Honorary Alumni Awards.

The Genesis Awards honor graduates of the past 15 years who have achieved early distinction in their field, and were presented to Kuberan Balagurunathan, ’00 PhD, and Nora Stelter, ’00 PharmD. The selection criteria mandate that one award is to be given for achievement in professional practice, and one for achievement in the academic community or in industry.

“The University of Iowa College of Pharmacy is privileged to recognize these passionate and committed leaders in the profession pharmacy. The 2014 award recipients personify excellence in practice, research, and advancement that has become synonymous with Iowa pharmacy,” said College of Pharmacy Dean Donald E. Letendre.
