Elizabeth Chrischilles, '86 PhD, '81 MS, '79 BSPh, and Marilyn, '80 BSPh, and Matthew Osterhaus, '80 BSPh, will be recognized as the UI College of Pharmacy's Distinguished Alumni Award winners during the Osterhaus Medal for Lifetime Achievement Symposium and Alumni Awards Ceremony on October 18.  

Elizabeth Chrischilles, '86 PhD,  '81 MS, '79  BSPh, is a professor of epidemiology and department head in the Department of Epidemiology and director of its Health Effectiveness Research Center.  She holds the Pomerantz Chair in Public Health in the College of Public Health and is associate director both for population sciences in the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center and for biomedical informatics in the UI Institute for Clinical and Translational Science.  She holds a secondary appointment in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science in the UI College of Pharmacy.  

Chrischilles is nationally recognized for innovative research in pharmacoepidemiology (the study of uses and effects of drugs in large populations) and comparative effectiveness of medical products and care management systems.  Her honors include receiving the Faculty Teaching Award in 2004, the Distinguished Faculty Lectureship in 2007, and the Faculty Research Award in 2014, all from the College of Public Health.  In 2009, Chrischilles received the Iowa Pharmacy Association Appreciation Award and in 2015, was named a fellow of the Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine at Drexel University College of Medicine.  

Marilyn Osterhaus, '80 BSPh, is a community pharmacist who co-owns and operates Osterhaus Pharmacy in Maquoketa, Iowa.  She is an adjunct faculty member of the UI College of Pharmacy and Drake University College of Pharmacy, serving as a preceptor for Community Care Pharmacy Practice residents and Doctor of Pharmacy students.  

She is an active member of her local, state, and national pharmacy associations.  Osterhaus has served in a variety of leadership positions, including President of the Dubuque Area Pharmacists Association and a board member of the Iowa Pharmacy Association.  Her practice focus has been serving post-mastectomy patients, specialty compounding, the use of over-the-counter medications, and encouraging the advancement of pharmacy practice in the community setting.  

Matthew Osterhaus, '80 BSPh, is a community and consultant pharmacist who co-owns and operates Osterhaus Pharmacy in Maquoketa, Iowa.  He is an adjunct faculty member of the UI College of Pharmacy and Drake University College of Pharmacy, serving as a preceptor for Community Care Pharmacy Practice residents and Doctor of Pharmacy students.  

Osterhaus was a founding investor of OutcomesMTM and has been instrumental in furthering community-based research in Iowa.  Osterhaus served on the Iowa Board of Pharmacy Examiners from 1993-2002, the Board of Directors of Pharmacist Mutual Companies from 2002-2014 and the Iowa Medical Assistance and Therapeutics Committee from 2005-2011.  He is currently serving as president of Community Pharmacy Enhanced Services Network (CPESN) Iowa and treasurer of CPESN USA.  Osterhaus is the past president of the American Pharmacists Association and the Iowa Pharmacy Association.
