Kashelle Lockman recently joined the College of Pharmacy as a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science, working with Associate Professor James Ray, the James A. Otterbeck OnePoint Patient Care Professor in Hospice and Palliative Care. The team will focus on the areas of palliative care, pain management, and hospice related care. She will maintain clinical practice at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Lockman earned a Bachelor of Science in biology at the College of Charleston and spent 10 years in biomedical research before transitioning to pharmacy. In 2013, she received a Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Maryland and was the 2013 recipient of the University of Maryland Geriatrics and Gerontology Education and Research Program Award for Excellence in Geriatric Pharmacy and the Andrew G. DuMez Award for Superior Proficiency in Pharmacy.

After finishing a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice residency at the University of Maryland Medical Center, she completed a PGY2 pharmacy residency in Pain Management and Palliative Care, as well as a fellowship in instructional design at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy. As part of this program, she earned a Masters of Arts in Instructional Systems Development from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in May 2016.

Lockman is looking forward to working with colleagues in the College of Pharmacy and across campus to design and develop interdisciplinary training opportunities in palliative care for University of Iowa students and alumni.
