Salem, UI Awarded Grant for Lymphoma Research
The Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa and Mayo Clinic have received a five-year, $11.5 million grant renewal from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) to run the Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE) for lymphoma research.
The grant was based on a highly competitive process of peer-review conducted by nationally recognized cancer researchers. SPORE funds will support four major research projects. One of the four major research projects is funded with approximately $1.3 million over five years and is focused on the In situ Immunization of Lymphoma using Nanoparticles. Project Director Aliasger Salem, Associate Professor in the College of Pharmacy, will work closely with George Weiner, Alicia Olivier and Brian Link in the College of Medicine to move the basic science discoveries in this project from the bench to the clinic.
