In the Spotlight is an initiative to celebrate the incredibly talented people and teams within the college and to facilitate awareness and understanding of the unique individuals who make up the pharmacy family. This month, we learn about Laura Felleman, accountant for the college.

In the Spotlight: Laura Felleman

Tell us about your role.

As part of the college’s financial team, I create invoices and reports, help with budgeting, process interdepartment requests, and answer account questions.

Tell us about your personal photo.

The photo is of me reading some of my poetry during an open mic night at a café in Iowa City.

What field of work did you begin in?

Ministry

What made you chose this field of work?

As a local church pastor, I was responsible for administering the congregation’s budget and donation policies. Studying accounting gave me a more professional understanding of financial practices in general. I enjoy accounting because analyzing finances gives me a big picture of the organization, which allows me to identify areas that would benefit from a more detailed, non-financial analysis.

Aside from necessities, what one thing could you not go a day without?

Taking a walk with my husband, which is our time to touch base and catch up.

If you had to describe yourself in three words, what would they be?

Optimistic, Open-minded and Organized.
