Each year the college of pharmacy recognizes preceptors with awards. These preceptors excel in experiential teaching of student pharmacists.
Emily Beckett serves as the clinical pharmacist for the Broadlawns Family Medicine Residency Program in Des Moines, Iowa. At this site, students work as part of a multidisciplinary team alongside residents and attending physicians, as well as nurses, health coaches and other medical learners. Spectrum of care includes over 4000 patients of all ages and health statuses, with special emphasis on serving underserved populations. Students participate in both inpatient rounds and outpatient clinic visits with a focus on chronic disease management, as well as treatment of acute conditions, preventive care and population health management. Students assist in anticoagulation clinic and diabetes education visits and contribute to clinic projects including those relating to patient-centered teaching, graduate medical education, patient safety and quality improvement.
