Beth Ann Bird, ’83 BSPh, MM
Beth Bird is a healthcare information solutions consultant for Castlight Health, a company seeking to tackle one of health care’s fundamental problems — the lack of transparency into the price and quality of health care. She joined Castlight in January 2013 following more than 13 years with Medco Health Solutions, Inc. (now Express Scripts) in the prescription benefit management industry.
Bird joined Medco in April 1999 as a Senior National Account Executive responsible for management of a large group of clients comprising the National Drug Purchasing Coalition (NDPC). She subsequently assumed a leadership role focused on supporting Medco’s clients and client‐facing teams through a suite of proprietary, web‐based client reporting and analytic software capabilities— managing the development and deployment, technical and consultative support, and updates and enhancements to content and functionality — and is a named inventor on five U.S. patents.
Prior to joining Medco, Bird spent two and one‐half years as a Senior Director with Merck’s U.S. Pharmaceutical Sales and Marketing Organizations, six years as the National Practice Leader for Prescription Benefit Management Consulting with Hewitt Associates, LLC (now Aon Hewitt), and five years as a Pharmaceutical Sales Representative with Eli Lilly & Co., Inc.
Bird is actively involved as a mentor with both the College of Pharmacy and the leadership development organization, Women Unlimited, Inc. She is a past Chapter President of the Student American Pharmaceutical Association, a member of the 1885 Society, and a lifetime member of The University of Iowa Alumni Association.
Bird received a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Iowa in 1983, and a Masters degree in Management from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University in 1991.
