Biography

Joanne Reiland Wakeman is a principle research scientist at AbbVie supporting commercial drug products.

Previously, Wakeman was the CMC representative on a cross-function development team and worked in formulation development at Ardea Biosciences. In her role at Ardea, she developed solid oral formulations for preclinical and clinical drug products all the way through New Drug Application (NDA) filing. She received her bachelor's degree in biochemistry with honors and highest distinction from the University of Iowa in 2002. Then, in preparation for her PhD work, she interned in product development working on formulation of parenteral biologics at Biogen. In 2009, Wakeman completed her PhD in Pharmaceutics at the University of Iowa studying drug transport under Professor Maureen Donovan.
