Biography

Thomas R. Temple is the President of Tom Temple Consulting LLC – a pharmacy consulting business providing services to a variety of professional organizations throughout the country. He also serves as Director of Strategic Communications for the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy. Mr. Temple had previously served as Executive Vice President and CEO of the Iowa Pharmacy Association (IPA), a position he held from 1977 to 2012. Mr. Temple received a BS degree in Biology from Northern Illinois University (1971), a professional degree in pharmacy from the University of Illinois (1977), and a MS degree in Pharmacy Administration from the University of Iowa (1977). Mr. Temple is a member of several professional organizations including the IPA, the American Pharmacists Association (APhA), and the National Alliance of State Pharmacy Associations (NASPA). He serves as a member of several governing boards for organizations including the US Pharmacopeia Convention (USP), the Alliance for Patient Medication Safety, and the University of Iowa Alumni Association. Additionally, Mr. Temple has served on Advisory Boards for the Medic Alert Foundation, Accreditation Council on Pharmaceutical Education, Pharmacy Technician Certification Board, Drake University College of Pharmacy, University of Illinois College of Pharmacy and the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy. He has also served as an advisory consultant to Upjohn, Glaxo SmithKline, Merck, Hoechst Marion Rousell and PCS. Mr. Temple’s leadership has been recognized through the receipt of several awards including APhA’s Hugo H. Schaefer Award, Gloria Neimeyer-Franke Leadership Mentor Award, IPA’s Robert G. Gibbs Award, the University of Illinois College of Pharmacy Alumnus of the Year Award, the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy Alumnus of the Year Award, the University of Iowa Distinguished Alumni Award for Service, the Drake University Weaver Medal of Honor, and The University of Iowa College of Pharmacy Osterhaus Medal for Lifetime Achievement.
