Department: Pharmacy Shift: 3 Description Perform professional function generally associated with the pharmacy department in a hospital setting. Answers drug information questions from physicians, nurses, patients and the general public. Assist with inventory control procedures such as ordering and receiving of medications/supplies from a variety of vendors; helps procure drugs and supplies from local hospitals and community pharmacies. Assists in the orientation, education and training of new pharmacists, technicians, and pharmacy students. Assists with nursing education programs, in-services, and other hospital committees as necessary. Checks medication supplies and pharmacy references on all nursing units and ancillary departments on a quarterly basis. Collaborates with Clinical Pharmacy Specialist and Pharmaceutical Care Specialist in providing safe, effective drug therapy for all patients. Confers with physicians and nurses regarding specific drug therapy problem areas such as: dosage schedules, therapeutic incompatibilities, choice of alternate drugs, drug allergies, drug administration method, overdose and underdose for inpatients and outpatients. Participates in the maintenance of records of pharmacy transactions as required by state and federal laws. Performs professional duties in the interpretation, profiling, preparation, and dispensing of medications and other pharmaceutical devices as prescribed by physicians. Procures patient data necessary to maintain professional profiles for inpatients and outpatients such as: age, height, weight, disease state and drug allergies. Hours: 3rd Shift hours Minimum Requirements Education A B.S. or Pharm. D. in pharmacy required. Experience Pharmacy experience in a hospital setting, 1 year required. Certification Current licensure as a pharmacist by the Iowa State Board of Pharmacy Examiners (or registered as a pharmacy intern and provide proof of licensure within three months of hire).
