Primary Purpose of the Job:
The Pharmacist is responsible for overseeing the preparation and dispensing of medication and acting as a resource for the provision of medication information for customers, and pharmacy technicians. Identifies, resolves, and prevents medication related problems through interaction with veterinarians, customers, and pharmacy technicians. Supervises and provides direction for pharmacy technicians to ensure the accurate and timely medication availability and quality customer interactions.
•Verify orders/prescriptions for safe dosing, interactions, duplications, and cost-effectiveness.
•Verify, initial, and is accountable for the completion and accuracy of all work including that of pharmacy technicians within the expected turnaround time.
•Ensure all vaccines are properly dispensed and stored within the pharmacy premises.
•Adhere to local, state, and federal laws regarding the profession of pharmacy practice and veterinary and internet pharmacy practices.
•Provide leadership, oversight, quality assurance, and training to pharmacy technicians.
•Interpret prescriptions and contact veterinarians and/or customers to verify information on prescriptions such as drug strength, prescription signature and drug name in order to expedite processing of orders.
•Verify prescription information entered in the system by data entry or order entry.
•Participate in all applicable state and Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice Sites (VIPPS) audits.
•Maintain current licensure in other states and keep up with regulatory state law and other licensure changes and updates.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
•Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or PharmD degree recognized from an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE).
•Active pharmacy license in the state of Iowa in good standing.
•Ability and desire to obtain and maintain pharmacist licensure in other states as required.
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with customers, management, and co-workers.
•Strong analytical and problem solving abilities.
•Ability to multi task with a high attention to detail.
