Keio University

This five-week Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) rotation consists of four weeks on-site at Keio University in Tokyo, Japan. Prior to the start of the rotation, students attend informational meetings with course coordinators. On-site in Japan, students participate in laboratory research, present to Keio University faculty and students, and spend time observing practice in Japanese community and hospital pharmacies. Post-travel, students present about Japan including comparing healthcare systems there and in the United States.

Kitasato University

This five-week APPE rotation consists of four weeks on-site at Kitasato University Faculty of Pharmacy in Minato-ku, Tokyo, Japan. Prior to the start of the rotation, students attend informational meetings with course coordinators. The experience is a mixture of visits and practice observation in patient care clinics, hospitals and community pharmacies, along with classroom sessions on better understanding the Japanese health care system and pharmacy education in Japan. Students also learn about traditional Japanese medicines (Kampo) and have time to explore Japan’s culture, cuisine and sites. Post-travel, students present about Japan including comparing healthcare systems there and in the United States.
