Dr. Nicole Brogden, an associate in the UI College of Pharmacy, has received a statewide Women of Innovation award in the category of Research Innovation and Leadership.
Michelle Fravel, PharmD, BCPS, has been chosen as the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy Teacher of the Year. Fravel, a 2006 graduate of the college, has always been drawn to healthcare professions.
University of Iowa Pharmaceuticals (UIP) was recently featured in a Quad Cities newscast about Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a genetic disease that affects approximately one in 3,500 boys. UIP has a contract with Halo Therapeutics to manufacture HT100, a potential therapy for Duchenne.
Mary Koerperick, ’77 BSPh, is a mentor for a handful of current University of Iowa College of Pharmacy students. “It’s a great way for the students to form a network, and to keep us ‘old’ people young!” said Koerperick. “I consider them my Rx kids.”
On May 1, over 70 College of Pharmacy students gathered for a dinner with Dean Donald Letendre to celebrate the peer mentorships that help establish a support system within the college.
This week, the Iowa House of Representatives passed legislation that includes necessary funds to break ground on a new College of Pharmacy building. This legislation will now move to the Senate for its consideration.
In November 2012, Todd and Jon Thompson (both BSPh ’98) made Iowa history by opening the first true tele-pharmacy in the state, utilizing TelePharm technology. TelePharm was recently featured in the Corridor Business Journal.
