Q: What are the course prerequisites for entry into the PharmD program?
Rhetoric: 4 sh
General Chemistry with lab: 8 sh
Calculus: 3 - 4 sh
General Biology with lab: 8 sh
Organic Chemistry: 6 sh
Biochemistry: 3 sh
Human Physiology: 3 - 4 sh
Human Anatomy: 3 sh
Microbiology with lab: 4 sh
Statistics: 3 sh
Microeconomics: 3 - 4 sh
Physics: 1 year high school or 1 semester college with lab

Q: What GPA do you require for admission?
A: We do not have a minimum GPA although our average of those admitted is in the 3.3-3.4 range.
Q: What are the application procedures?
A: You must apply using PharmCAS, and submit official transcripts, two letters of reference, and PCAT scores directly to PharmCAS. Scores from any January PCAT will be accepted for that year's fall admission. In February interviews will be held for a select number of students.
Q: When is the application deadline?
A: The deadline for admission is early January.
Q: Do you have rolling admissions?
A: No, only applications submitted by the application deadline will receive full consideration.
Q: When will I find out if I’ve been accepted?
A: Interviewed candidates are notified of admission as decisions are made by the Admissions Committee during February and March.
Q: How many students are enrolled in the program each year?
A: Approximately 120 students are enrolled each Fall.
Q: How many students apply each year?
A: We receive approximately 300-350 applications per year.
Q: Do you accept transfer and out-of-state students?
A: Yes. We do not give preference to in-state or University of Iowa Students. Read transfer information here.
Q: Do you accept international students?
A: Yes. All pharmacy prerequisite courses need to be completed in the United States or Canada. For graduates of other countries' pharmacy schools, candidates must apply to enter the first year of the four-year PharmD program at the UI College of Pharmacy.
Q: What is your retention rate?
A: Our retention rate is very high as we select students who are well-prepared for the rigorous curriculum. PharmD Excellence Indicators
Q: What percent of students pass their licensure exams?
A: For the past 5 years, our students have had a 94% passing rate on all licensure exams.
