Two Doctor of Pharmacy students are promoting palliative care by bringing a global art project into the College of Pharmacy.

Lauren Pass, College of Pharmacy research associate and Master of Public Health student, and Korey Kennelty, assistant professor, Pharmacy Practice and Science, recently initiated a new study examining how anxiety and depressive disorders are managed in rural cardiovascular disease patients.

Each year, the College of Pharmacy recognizes preceptors with awards in three categories --- Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience, Introductory Pharmacy Practice, and Faculty. These preceptors excel in experiential teaching of student pharmacists.

Student athletes juggle academics with rigorous training and game schedules. That complexity is made even more daunting when a student athlete enters a professional or graduate program. Two such athletes joined the College of Pharmacy in the fall of 2017: Reghan Coyle (Volleyball) and Andrew Jatis (Track and Field).

Jannet M. Carmichael, ’75 BSPh, PharmD, has been named the recipient of the 2017 Osterhaus Medal for Lifetime Achievement. Carmichael, of Reno, Nevada, is the president of Pharm Consult NV LLC, a clinical pharmacy services consulting company.

Student success comes from hard work, a strong supportive network, and sometimes the philanthropic backing of those who have come before you. Over the last ten years, David and James Carlson have supported two students each year as they pursued their Doctor of Pharmacy Degrees.

Chris Parker—a pharmacy specialist in the college’s Division of Health Services Research—is one of six UI recipients of this year’s Board of Regents Staff Excellence Award.

Sue Purcell, ’74 BSPh, and William C. Stagner, ’73 BSPh, ’77 MS, ’79 PhD, will be recognized as the UI College of Pharmacy's Distinguished Alumni Award winners during the Osterhaus Medal for Lifetime Achievement Symposium and Alumni Awards Ceremony on October 5. 

On  Sept. 8, 2017, pharmaceutics graduate student Phawanan Sawangchan successfully defended her thesis to the Division of Pharmaceutics and Translational Therapeutics.

On Sept. 1, Gary Milavetz assumed the role of Executive Associate Dean of the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy. In this role, his duties include faculty development, strategic planning, and program and project management.
