Introduction
Earned his BS in Pharmacy in 1980 and began career as a pharmacist in an independent community pharmacy. After earning Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 1984, he joined the College of Pharmacy Faculty and became the Clinical Pharmacist for the Cedar Rapids Medical Education Foundation Family Medicine Residency Program at the Mechanicsville Pioneer Medical Center and subsequently the Family Practice Center in Cedar Rapids. A founding faculty member of the Iowa Center for Pharmaceutical Care, he assisted pharmacists in their transition to patient-centered care provision. He developed the first college-based multi-site community residency program accredited by ASHP/APhA. Directed that program for fifteen years and directed the Professional Experiential Program at The University of Iowa College of Pharmacy for eleven years. He became the Associate Head of the Division of Clinical and Administrative Pharmacy in 2005, then Vice Chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science and Head of the Division of Applied Clinical Science in 2009. He served as Chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science from 2013 to 2024. He retired August 13, 2024.
