The UI College of Pharmacy Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science’s Teaching and Learning curriculum for residents and fellows—known as the Pharmacy Educator Preparation Program for Residents and Fellows (PEPPR)—prepares participants in the art and science of teaching and learning.

Teaching and Learning Curriculum for Residents and Fellows

Program Purpose

The University of Iowa College of Pharmacy - Pharmacy Educators Preparation Program for Residents and Fellows (PEPPR) prepares participants to design, deliver, and evaluate educational activities in clinical and academic settings; to precept learners in clinical settings; and to document growth through a teaching portfolio. Upon successful completion of PEPPR, participants will have a foundation for educating health professions learners in both clinical and academic environments.

Program Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the 1-year program, participants should be able to:

  1. Apply evidence from the learning sciences to optimize learning in clinical and academic settings.
  2. Provide effective feedback on knowledge and skills development to pharmacy learners.
  3. Model foundational precepting and layered learning practices in experiential settings.
  4. Create and maintain a teaching portfolio that includes a teaching philosophy statement, teaching artifacts, teaching evaluations, and self-reflections.
