Dr. Ernst received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Iowa in 1997, and completed a specialized residency in Family Medicine at the University of Iowa from 1997-1998. His primary teaching site is in the Department of Family and Community Medicine, and encompasses both the outpatient and inpatient settings where he is engaged in direct patient care, as well as traditional provision of drug information and pharmacotherapy consultation to physicians and allied health care providers in the Family Medicine clinic and the multidisciplinary geriatrics assessment clinic. His practice and research interests are in the areas of hypertension and geriatric patient care, notably as an investigator in multiple collaborative management of hypertension studies, and a member of the steering committee for the ASPirin in Reducing Events in the Elderly study. He is board certified in geriatric pharmacy and also a certified hypertension clinician.
