College of Pharmacy administrators have been compiling data about graduating student placement, and this year’s data highlights a growing trend in pharmacy education. Of the 112 students who earned their PharmD from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy in 2012, 37 (37.8%) planned to participate in a residency program. This is up over 10 percent from 2011, and 15 percent from 2010.

Other highlights from the report (all data based only on survey respondents):

  • Total PharmD graduates: 112 (Survey respondents: 98)
  • Accepted placement by graduation: 88.8%
    • Secured employment by graduation: 51%
    • Accepted into residency program: 37.8%
    • Types of residencies obtained (37 students):
      • PGYI Pharmacy Residency Program: 72.9%
      • PGY1 Ambulatory Care Residency Program: 10.8%
      • PGY1 Community Pharmacy Residency: 10.8%
      • Other: 5.4%
