The University of Iowa College of Pharmacy has announced the 2017 recipients of the Honorary Alumni Award. Mundi McCarty and CoraLynn Trewet will be recognized during the Osterhaus Medal for Lifetime Achievement Symposium and Alumni Awards Ceremony on October 5. The Honorary Alumni Award annually honors friends of the college for their personal contribution toward pharmacy achievement, leadership, and service to the profession, or exhibits exceptional service to the college. These individuals inspire students and serve as role models.

Mundi McCarty

Mundi McCarty served as the University of Iowa Foundation’s director of development for the UI College of Pharmacy until June 2017. Her seven and a half years of work on behalf of the college exceeded the $25.54 million dollar fundraising goal for the College of Pharmacy, which included the start of the capital campaign for the new College of Pharmacy building. This fundraising achievement was more than three times the previous campaign attainment for the college. She worked closely with Dean Donald Letendre in establishing the Executive Leadership Board, an engaged advisory and philanthropic board for the college.

An experienced fundraiser, McCarty was the college’s first full-time development officer in many years. With her guidance, the college established the foundations for a ‘culture of philanthropy’ among alumni and friends, leading to exponential increases in faculty, student, and facilities support.

McCarty was a board member in the Development Directors Special Interest Group of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy. She is active in her community, serving on the Solon Education Foundation board at Solon Community School District.

She is currently the development director of the Hoover Presidential Foundation in West Branch, Iowa, where her efforts support the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library-Museum and the Hoover National Historic Site.

CoraLynn Trewet

CoraLynn B. Trewet, PharmD, is a medical science liaison with Sanofi specializing in diabetes. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy from Drake University and completed a practice management residency at the the University of Kansas, where she also obtained her Master’s in Pharmacy Administration.

Upon her return to Iowa, Trewet spent several years at the University of Iowa as a clinical associate professor of pharmacy, specializing in family medicine. Here, she learned from the very best how to be a clinical pharmacist, teacher, and researcher.

Trewet is a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist and a Certified Diabetes Educator. She was named Iowa’s Distinguished Young Pharmacist of the Year in 2011 and is a fellow of the National Lipid Association and American Pharmacists Association.

She has been an active volunteer with state and national associations working to advance the profession of pharmacy, including serving as the Speaker of the House of Delegates for the Iowa Pharmacy Association. She is a recognized speaker for various clinical and adult learning topics.

The joy of her life is being a wife to Matt and a mom to Carter, Cate, and Charlie. They reside in Ankeny, Iowa.
