In the Spotlight is an initiative to celebrate the incredibly talented people and teams within the college and to facilitate awareness and understanding of the unique individuals who make up the pharmacy family.

Geetu Mahadik and Family

Tell us about your role at the college.

My job involves performing chemical analysis using High Performance Liquid Chromatography to conduct assays on stability and finished drug products.

What field of work did you begin in?

My initial work was in the field of Organic Chemistry but then I shifted my focus to Analytical Chemistry.

What made you chose this field of work?

I was always intrigued with chemical reactions. On the surface, Chemistry seems to be very complex but as you start learning more, it’s very intuitive and logical. I chose this field because it's challenging, exciting, rewarding, and fun!

Tell us about your photo.

This is my family - myself with my husband and son. We recently moved to Iowa and on our way, we stopped at Illinois State University, Department of Chemistry, where I graduated with Master’s degree.

What's your favorite thing to do in the summer?

I love to garden in the summer. This year, I am growing lavender, lilies, different varieties of tomatoes, radish, turnips, cucumbers, red onions, garlic, mint, and peppers.

Where do you want to travel to, but have never been?

I want to travel to Angkor Wat temple complex in Cambodia.

How many states have you been to in the U.S.?

So far, I have visited 15 states and most amazingly, I have lived in six different states within the U.S.

This "In the Spotlight" has been brought to you by the UI College of Pharmacy Staff Council.
