In the Spotlight is an initiative to celebrate the incredibly talented people and teams within the college and to facilitate awareness and understanding of the unique individuals who make up the pharmacy family. This month, we learn about Julia Woodiwiss, administrative services coordinator in the Dean's Office.

In the Spotlight: Julia Woodiwiss

Tell us about your role.
In my current position, I support various administrative functions within the Dean’s Office, primarily serving as the executive assistant to the dean and executive associate dean. Additionally, I provide administrative support and management of collegiate meetings and committees, the college’s promotion and tenure process and faculty affairs, International Memorandums of Understanding (IMOU’s), strategic planning, office staffing, special projects, and etc.

Tell us about your personal photo.
Horseback riding has always been my childhood love--this photo was taken in Estes Park, Colo. while horseback riding in the mountains with a friend.

What field of work did you begin in?
Most people don’t know that I grew up in the small town of Lone Tree, Iowa, and my first job was detasseling and roguing the fields of central Iowa each summer through middle/high school, while also working at the Riverside Casino. I waitressed at multiple restaurants to pay for college and graduated with a marketing degree from UI Tippie College of Business. I wanted to get back into the University and landed in the Dean’s Office in Fall 2014.

Where do you most want to travel, but have never been?
Australia, Canada, Cuba, Fiji, Italy, New Zealand, Portugal…Too many places to just pick one!

If you had to describe yourself in three words, what would they be?
Hardworking, kind-hearted, and extroverted-introvert. :)

If you could have an endless supply of any food, what would you get?
If I could actually eat it (I'm intolerant to dairy, egg, and soy!), I would have an endless supply of cheesecake.

This "In the Spotlight" has been brought to you by the UI College of Pharmacy Staff Council.
