Love is in the air at the UI College of Pharmacy! 💘 Some students successfully obtained their degrees and found their lifelong partners! Such is the case for the two pharmacy sweetheart couples below:

Barb and Jim Hoehns

Jim and Barb (Conradt) Hoehns—both '92 BSPh—met while in pharmacy school. In 1991, on their first date, they attended the annual College of Pharmacy Spring Formal, held at the (former) University Athletic Club. After earning their degrees, they continued their education at the UI, each receiving their Doctor of Pharmacy degrees—Jim in 1994 and Barb in 1995.

The pair were married in 1994 in Barb’s hometown of Des Moines. Jim and Barb reside near Cedar Falls and have three children:  Sarah (23), Taylor (20), and Jack (17).

Barb works at the MercyOne Waterloo Medical Center in inpatient pharmacy in Waterloo, Iowa. Jim is a UI College of Pharmacy clinical associate professor and research director for the MercyOne Northeast Iowa Family Medicine Residency.

Some of their favorite activities together are enjoying time outside, traveling, watching their kids’ events, and simply spending time with family.

Ryan and Olivia (Altemeier) Molander—both '20 PharmD—met in 2016 when they sat next to each other during the White Coat Ceremony. They became best friends during their P1 and P2 years while getting to know each other through studying for pharmacy exams, tailgating at Hawkeye football games, traveling to pharmacy conferences, and riding to class on Ryan’s moped. They began dating at the end of their P2 year in 2018, became engaged in 2022, and were married in June 2023.

After finishing pharmacy school, Olivia completed a PGY1 Acute Care and PGY2 Oncology Residency at the University of Kansas Health System (TUKHS) in Kansas City, Kansas. She now works as a bone marrow transplant pharmacist at TUKHS. Ryan completed a PGY1 Acute Care Residency at MercyOne Waterloo Medical Center. Today, he's with Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri, as a clinical pharmacy specialist in Investigational Drug Services.

The couple’s hobbies include traveling, outdoor activities, concerts, sporting events, board games, and spending time with friends and family. They are big "pet people" and have a dog Kylo (pictured) and two cats, Cassie and Calvin. Their favorite memories of the College include all of the lifelong friendships they made with their classmates and spending time decompressing at DC's Sports Bar after exams.
