Co-curricular activities are "experiences which complement, augment and/or advance what is learned in the formal didactic and experiential curriculum."

The co-curriculum program at the UI College of Pharmacy is designed to promote student growth as communicators, advocates, interprofessional collaborators, leaders, and engaged citizens of their community. Co-curriculum initiatives are student-centered and focused on the Continuing Professional Development model integrating reflection, planning, acting, evaluating, and recording steps toward professional development.

The goals of co-curriculum activities are to:

  1. Practice aligning goals with desired learning outcomes and tracking progress toward those professional development goals.
  2. Nurture communication, care, advocacy, interprofessional collaboration, leadership, service, compassion, community, and self-awareness.
  3. Provide opportunities for student pharmacists to gain patient care and professional engagement experience; apply knowledge; utilize skills; and gain professional competence and confidence in community and professional organization settings, while preparing for the Advance Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPE).
