Dr. Knockel is a clinical associate professor at the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy and a clinical pharmacist at the University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center outpatient pharmacies. She received her PharmD from the University of Iowa in 2005 and completed a PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency with an Emphasis in Community Care with the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy and Hy-Vee Pharmacy in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She teaches in the pharmacy practice skills laboratory, focusing on community pharmacy skills, including coordinating immunization and self-care topics. She was chosen as P1 Teacher of the Year in 2018 and 2022.

Prior to joining the faculty, she practiced at Hy-Vee Pharmacy in Iowa City for 10 years. She is actively involved in multiple pharmacy organizations, including American Pharmacists Association, American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, and the Iowa Pharmacy Association. She recently served as the coordinator for the APhA Immunizing Pharmacists Special Interest Group. Her areas of interest include immunizations, self-care, the scholarship of teaching and learning, innovative teaching methods, and advancing community pharmacy practice.
