Vern Duba, MA, Library and Informational Science
Introduction
Vern Duba, MA, is Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science and Instructional Services Specialist in the Office of Professional Education at The University of Iowa College of Pharmacy. He was educated in English and Speech/Theatre at Doane College, Crete, NE (BA 1983) and Library and Informational Science at the University of Missouri-Columbia (MA 1987). Prior to coming to UI in 1992, Vern worked as a consultant for the State Library of Iowa’s regional library system and a user education librarian at The Ohio State University. His academic interests include the librarian’s collaborative role in curriculum-based learning as well as the challenges and opportunities of electronic drug information sources, mobile technologies, and the Internet. Prof. Duba is a member of the AACP, APhA, ASHP and the Medical Library Association. He is a past-chair of the Library and Information Sciences Section of the AACP and a four-time recipient of the Grace and Harold Sewell Memorial Fund Stipend. He has given invited presentations at AACP and ASHP annual meetings. He is the recipient of the UI Worklife Improving Our Workplace Award, College of Pharmacy CAP Excellence in Teaching Award, and served as a faculty mentor in the UI WISE Mentoring Program. He was the Class of 2024 Teacher of the Year and the P1 Teacher of the Year in 2010. Vern is a current faculty participant in the 1stGen@Iowa Mentor Network.
