The College of Pharmacy benefits from the many resources available at the university, professional associations in pharmacy, and the wealth of knowledge of our own faculty and staff, to support students with their career development. If you have questions regarding where to go for support with your career development needs, contact the director of Student Success.
Resources
- The college uses Handshake, a job posting site offered through the university, to share information about job opportunities and residency information sessions. All students at the university have an account and can use this service after graduation. There is also guidance on how to search for positions on Handshake.
- Jobs at UI Health Care are posted on jobs@iowa.edu. Choose Staff at the top, then under category choose “Pharmaceutical Services”.
- The Iowa Pharmacy Association Career Center Job Search page features a variety of pharmacy jobs.
- Great general information through the Pomerantz Career Center’s website includes making it through Applicant Tracking Systems (aka: resume review bots): Please note: only online resources are available to graduate/professional students.
- APhA has free resources specific to pharmacy.
- Share your resume/CV with your faculty mentor, professional mentor, or others you trust in the field and get individual feedback.
- Professional Associations:
- The Iowa Pharmacy Association Career Center's RX Ashlee can help you fine-tune your resume and articulate their own unique brand.
- Check out professional associations you may be a member of through your student organizations. Many of these associations have a “career corner” on their website with resources.
- General interview preparation is available through the Pomerantz Career Center. It also has some good resources on salary negotiation.
- Big Interview is an online virtual interview practice tool which allows you to choose your interview, record your performance, and even share it with your mentor for feedback.

- Applications open October of the P4 year. Residency information
- Residency programs offering information sessions that contact the College of Pharmacy are directed to post on Handshake under “Events”.
- Consider taking the elective course Pathway to Residency during fall of the P3 year.
- Talk with your faculty mentor regarding the residency process.
- Talk with your Faculty Mentor about your interests.
- Reach out to people in the college's Alumni Directory and ask to set up an informational interview (where you interview them to learn about the field and what they do day to day).
- Read about some of the pathways in pharmacy.
