Carolyn (Stone) Luedtke, '20 PharmD

Pediatric Clinical Pharmacist, University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital
Biography

After graduating, with her PharmD and palliative care certificate from the University of Iowa in 2020, Carolyn completed a PGY1 pharmacy residency at UW Health in Madison, WI, followed by PGY2 in pediatric pharmacy at UW Health American Family Children's Hospital. She returned to Iowa City and is a pediatric clinical pharmacist at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital. Her primary area of practice is pediatric oncology, hematology, and bone marrow transplant.

Impact Statement: The palliative care certificate program imprinted on me the importance of a patient's holistic physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. I use what I learned as a student on a weekly, if not daily, basis in caring for children with cancer. This includes not only my knowledge of pain and cancer symptom management, but also how I talk with patients, answer tough questions from patients' parents, and provide empathetic listening. My mindset on patient care changed as a result of the certificate program and I would not be the pharmacist I am today without this training.
