Kari Starbeck is originally from Cedar Falls, Iowa. She completed her pharmacy pre-requisite studies at the University of Iowa and graduated with her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy in May 2023. She is currently a PGY1 resident at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. After completing her PGY1 residency she hopes to pursue specialized residency training. Ultimately, she would like to work in an academic medical center in a role that would allow her to teach and precept students. 

Palliative Care Certificate Impact: The biggest impact that the palliative care certificate program had on my education was the focus it has on patient centered care and effectively communicating with patients. I feel more confident walking into patient interactions because of the training provided in this program. It teaches you to deal with difficult situations and gives you many tools to navigate tough conversations with patients and their families.
