Biography

Lucy Sundrup is a recent Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) graduate from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy, Class of 2025. Originally from Council Bluffs, Iowa, she was deeply engaged in student leadership, professional organizations, and patient-centered initiatives throughout her time in pharmacy school.

Lucy held multiple executive board positions, coordinated educational events for her peers, and spearheaded outreach efforts to promote cancer screening and awareness through innovative community programs. These experiences enhanced her communication, organizational, and teamwork skills, while reinforcing her passion for pharmacy.

She is particularly drawn to areas of practice that emphasize empathy, quality of life, and individualized care, such as palliative care and oncology. Lucy values the opportunity to support patients through complex and emotionally challenging health journeys, always striving to deliver care that is both evidence-based and compassionate.

She is excited to begin her PGY1 pharmacy residency at CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center–Bergan Mercy, where she looks forward to further developing her clinical skills and serving patients across diverse care settings.

"The Palliative Care Certificate prepared me to provide whole-person care and to truly value the patient's voice in the healthcare process. It emphasized the importance of aligning treatment with patient goals and respecting their decisions, especially during complex or serious illness. While my career is just beginning, this certificate has already helped me grow as a leader and as a future pharmacist working within interprofessional teams. I believe palliative care plays a vital role in every disease state, and I hope its principles become more widely accepted and integrated across all areas of pharmacy practice."
