The University of Iowa College of Pharmacy’s Professional Outreach Development Societies (PODS) are undergoing some changes. Moving forward, the groups will focus on student development through leadership, mentorship, and fellowship. Dozens of students have already signed up to be mentors for the 2012-2013 academic year, and more are expected to follow suit.

To highlight the importance of mentorship to the organization, the communities have taken on new titles. These titles pay homage to a few of our predecessors that have enriched the college over the years. The new communities are:

  • Boerner, (Dean 1885-1904)
  • Teeters,  (Dean, 1904-1937)
  • Cooper  (Distinguished Woman in Pharmacy, tenured professor 1897-1942)
  • Kuever, (Dean, 1937-1952)

Additionally, the leaders of the respective communities will now be known as presidents and vice presidents to better align with the other organizations within the college.

If you are interested in being either a peer mentor or a professional mentor, please contact Barb Kelley for more information.
