Diana Karkow, ’12 PharmD, loves to solve puzzles. Fascinated by the vast degree of variation within infectious diseases (ID), she is looking forward to the problem-solving aspect of her new role as pharmaceutical fellow with the College of Pharmacy and UI Hospitals and Clinics.

Diana will be completing a fellowship co-directed by Sarah Johnson, clinical assistant professor and clinical pharmacy specialist, and Erika Ernst, associate professor, that will focus on the clinical research of infectious diseases. Antimicrobial stewardship, and clinical practice are among the focus areas of the research, and will center on the role of pharmaceutics in treating infection.

Diana hopes to apply the experience gained throughout her fellowship in future professional endeavors. Upon completion of her fellowship she hopes to continue working as part of a large hospital and academic institution as an Infectious Diseases Clinical Specialist.
