On Nov. 14, student pharmacists volunteered to raise awareness on World Diabetes Day through events promoting healthy habits and lifestyle. The International Diabetes Federation organizes World Diabetes Day, and strives to unite the global diabetes community while producing a powerful voice for disease advocacy.

The student organization APhA-ASP offered free healthy snack alternatives at the college to emphasize the importance of nutrition in disease prevention. The organization also turned to the Coralville community in hopes of raising awareness, holding Operation Diabetes event at the Coralville HyVee Pharmacy. A free event, pharmacy student representatives offered blood glucose screenings in addition to patient counseling and education.

Both events exhibit the value of community involvement and dedication to health promotion within the college as well as the pharmacy profession.
