Abbey Schwery, '21 PharmD

Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Pain Management, University of Michigan Health
Biography

Abbey Schwery, now post-residency, is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Pain Management at University of Michigan Health. Within this role, Schwery will be helping to create a pain pharmacy service that will serve all patients throughout all inpatient areas who are experiencing chronic or complex pain. Abbey completed a PGY1 general pharmacy practice residency and a PGY2 in pain and palliative care at University of Michigan Health.

Palliative Care Certificate Impact: The palliative care certificate has been instrumental throughout my residency and now as I begin my post-residency position. During my PGY1, I was utilizing opioid conversions and educating both providers and patients about opioid adverse events on most of my rotations. I was able to stand out compared to other residents within my class due to my depth of knowledge when it came to opioids. I still, to this day, refer back to diagrams and papers references in Dr. Ray and Dr. Lockman’s PowerPoint slides. I would not be where I am today without completing the palliative care certificate.
