Why did you choose the University of Iowa?
"The culture around the University of Iowa and Iowa City in general really spoke to me when I was considering where to go to for school. When I had my college visit during my senior year of high school, just by walking around on campus, you can really see the school spirit and pride of being a Hawkeye. With highly ranked health professional programs, extensive research opportunities, and the association of an on-campus hospital, I knew that studying at the University of Iowa will promise me a high-quality education experience."
What was it about Iowa that made you want to study/live here?
"I chose to study in Iowa as it is somewhat close to my hometown in Illinois, but also at a distance where I can experience independency and what it’s like to live in a completely new area. Studying in Iowa also allows me to study at such a great institution with ample opportunities to succeed."
Why did you choose to attend the UI College of Pharmacy?
"I believed that by choosing the UI College of Pharmacy, I would gather so many experiences and be handed many opportunities to succeed as a student pharmacist and future professional, and I was correct. With the College of Pharmacy being a Top 25 ranked pharmacy school that happens to be so close to a nationally ranked hospital, it allowed me to gain work experience, volunteering experience, research experience, and gain new connections. I wanted to be in a program that allows me to gain a sense of confidence while I build upon my learning, as well as gain and enhance the necessary skills to become a pharmacist, and Iowa does just that."
What do you want others to know about the UI College of Pharmacy? Why choose us?
"What makes the UI College of Pharmacy stand out is the uplifting environment that is created here. The term “pharmily” is used often, and that’s because it definitely feels like you have gained a new family. The community that is the UI College of Pharmacy functions fantastically because everyone in that community strives for the same goal, with that goal being success. Whether it be the students in your class, your professors, the faculty, or your preceptors, everyone just wants success for one another. And to reach that goal for success within a pharmacy program, it is so easy to grab a helping hand. The amount of helping hands that you can find here is what makes us stand out as a school of pharmacy."
What have been some of your most memorable positive experiences at the College of Pharmacy so far?
"The connections I have made throughout my three years at Iowa have been my most memorable positive experience. I've been able to gain new connections, whether it be through faculty at the College of Pharmacy, connections across the state of Iowa, or connections nationally through national meetings for student organizations. I have held conversations with all sorts of people across the country who are pursuing all different areas of pharmacy, and each and every single one of them have gave me great advice and tips that are helpful for me to reach my short-term and long-term goals."
Tell me a little bit about your pharmacy interests.
"I would like to pursue a residency where I can complete training after graduation. My goal is to become a pediatric clinical pharmacist and work alongside an interdisciplinary team to care for critical patients within a free-standing children’s hospital. I don’t have a specific specialty in mind yet, but do have an interest in NICU Care, Endocrinology, and Infectious Disease."
