Next week, the University of Iowa – including the College of Pharmacy – will be celebrating the culture of philanthropy that creates opportunities for students and faculty, from scholarships to endowed professorships, and much more.

On May 2, the celebration will get under way with the second annual Phil’s Day, sponsored by the UI Foundation. The college has several events and activities planned for students, faculty, and staff to appreciate the philanthropic gifts that help to make the College of Pharmacy special.

All Day: We’re tagging the college! Stickers, posters, and gold ribbons will highlight buildings and programs made possible by donations, and represent people who give, or benefit from private support.

11:30 am-1:00 pm: Select student leaders have been invited to join alumni and speakers Debbie and Tom Veale, and Dean Letendre for lunch in Banker conference rooms. Thank you to faculty and staff for allowing and encouraging students to attend these events –especially if in conflict with your class time!

1:00-4:30 pm: Postcard signing outside of Banker Student Center. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to sign a thank-you card(s) for a pharmacy donor.

2:30 -3:15 pm: Life With Phil, a talk by Debbie, ‘81 BSPh, and Tom Veale, ‘80 BBA, Zopf Auditorium B. Hear their personal story of their time at the UI and in the College of Pharmacy, their ongoing relationship with the University of Iowa, their career and why it’s important to give back to the their college. Debbie is Director of Managed Care for CVS and Tom is the founder and President of TRISTAR, one of the nation’s largest insurance services firms and serves as the college’s Executive Leadership Board Chair. Everyone in the college is welcome.

3:15-4:30 pm: Meet and visit with Debbie and Tom at a reception in their honor in Banker Student Center. Join us for light refreshments. Everyone in the college is welcome.

On Friday, May 3, the University of Iowa Foundation will launch it's multi-year fundraising campaign at Carver Hawkeye Arena. Dean Letendre will join other university administrators, as well as members of the UI President’s Club in the official capital campaign kickoff.

The following morning, members of the College of Pharmacy family will enjoy breakfast at the University Club, and hear from Dean Letendre and Rod Lehnertz, the director of planning, design and construction for the university. The college’s Executive Leadership Board will meet for the duration of the day, before attending the College of Pharmacy ball that evening.
