Over the last week, the College of Pharmacy has been bustling with excitement, as 124 new students filled the halls.

In the Doctor of Pharmacy program, the 111 students were officially welcomed to the profession of pharmacy during the annual White Coat ceremony. This event marked the midpoint of the course, “Engagement: Professional Skills and Values,” during which students are oriented to the college and curriculum.

The PharmD class of 2021 is comprised of 72 women and 39 men. Ninety of the students are from the state of Iowa, 19 from out-of-state, and two are international students. The class has two sets of siblings, and at least two student athletes.

In addition, the college welcomed 13 new graduate students—three in Clinical Pharmaceutical Sciences, two  in Pharmaceutical Socioeconomics, five in Pharmaceutics, and three in Medicinal and Natural Products Chemistry.

Graduate students come from as far away as Egypt, and as nearby as Grinnell, Iowa. They have earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees, and even PharmD’s, in advance of pursuing their PhD at the UI College of Pharmacy.

Welcome to all the new students!
