Q: What are the course prerequisites for entry into the PharmD program?

Rhetoric: 4 sh
Principles of Chemistry with lab: 8 sh
Calculus: 3 - 4 sh
Principles of Biology with lab: 8 sh
Organic Chemistry: 6 sh
Biochemistry: 3 sh
Human Physiology: 3 - 4 sh
Human Anatomy: 3 sh
Microbiology with lab: 4 sh
Statistics: 3 sh
Physics: 1 year high school or 1 semester college (lab recommended but not required)
General Education Electives: 16 sh required for admission, 6 of those 16 sh need to be within the Social Sciences

Q: What GPA do you require for admission?
A: The minimum GPA to apply is a 2.50, with a C- or above in all prerequisite coursework.
Q: What are the application procedures?
A: PharmD applicants must create a profile using the Pharmacy College Application Service (PharmCAS). Required materials are:
- Personal Statement (~1 page in length)
- Two Letters of Reference (will accept up to 4)
- Official Transcripts from all institutions where college credit was received.
*Personal Interviews are required for admission. Applicants will be contacted by the college if selected to interview.

Q: When is the application deadline?
A: The University of Iowa College of Pharmacy has a Priority Deadline of November 1st, 2024 and a Final Deadline of March 3rd, 2025.
Q: When will I find out if I’ve been accepted?
A: Candidates are notified of admission as decisions are made by the Admissions Committee, typically within 2 -3 weeks after their personal interview.
Q: How many students are enrolled in the program each year?
A: Approximately 100 - 120 students are enrolled each Fall.
Q: How many students apply each year?
A: We receive approximately 300-350 applications per year.
Q: Do you accept transfer and out-of-state students?
A: Yes. We do not give preference to in-state or University of Iowa Students. View transfer information here.
Q: How will my courses transfer?
You may look over an abbreviated list here or refer to the UI Transfer Planning Resources. Additionally, you may request an audit review by our Admissions staff here.
*Please provide unofficial transcripts form all institutions you have received college credit from when requesting an audit review.
Q: Do you accept international students?
A: Yes. Applicants should complete at least one year (i.e. 30 semester hours) of pre-requisite at an accredited institution in the U.S. or Canada. Credits from an institution outside the U.S. or Canada must be determined through an evaluation prepared by World Education Services (WES). This evaluation can be requested through the PharmCAS application. Applicants must meet the University of Iowa's English Proficiency Requirements.

A: We encourage but do not require business casual attire for all PharmD interviews. Candidates should feel confident and look professional!
