Engaging in Activity

Whatever your interests, there’s an outlet for it. Whether it's participating in sports or fitness classes, supporting Hawkeye teams, or taking in a play, the University of Iowa and the Iowa City area offers many opportunities to take a break from schoolwork. Recreation is a chance to get active, gather with those having similar hobbies, or experience the talent, skill, and expression of others.

Stay active by playing volleyball with classmates, participating in club sports, or checking out one of Iowa City’s more than 60 parks, trails, and open spaces. Plus, just a 30-minute drive puts you in Lake Macbride State Park and more than seven miles of hiking trails that wind around a beautiful lake.

Knit, support nonprofit or environmental causes, create art, engage in ballet, or join in board games. Whatever’s in your wheelhouse, there’s a match through the UI’s more than 600 student organizations.
