UI College of Pharmacy students and alumni attended the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) Annual Meeting Oct. 15-19 in New Orleans. The college’s NCPA student chapter was voted to receive the NCPA Foundation’s National Chapter of the Year Award, and Randy McDonough was named the NCPA 2016 Willard B. Simmons Independent Pharmacist of the Year.

William Wise joined the College of Pharmacy as the new director of finance effective Oct. 10, 2016. In this position, Wise is responsible for planning, administration, and evaluation of the College of Pharmacy’s fiscal activities.

Korey Kennelty, PharmD, MS, PhD, joined the College of Pharmacy as an assistant professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science, Division of Health Services Research, last month. Her research primarily examines patients’ medication continuity when they transition from the hospital to community care.

The current opioid epidemic is a complex problem. The state of Iowa is no exception to this epidemic as overdose deaths are quickly on the rise.

Construction has officially started on the new home of the UI College of Pharmacy.

A crowd of more than 100 — including students clad in white coats and legislative dignitaries — gathered Thursday for an official groundbreaking of the long-awaited $96.

Ian Nguyen is a project manager in the Non-Sterile Products Department at UI Pharmaceuticals. He supervises the production of pharmaceutical preparations under cGMPs, oversees production staff, and provides additional training as needed for specific projects.

Donald Letendre, Dean of the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy, says educating the next generation of leaders in pharmacy practice and pharmaceutical science takes more than a rigorous curriculum delivered by top-notch faculty and staff. It also requires a state-of-the-art facility.

The Osterhaus Medal for Lifetime Achievement is presented annually to one or more individuals who have made extraordinary achievements in the pharmacy profession.

Joanne Reiland Wakeman, ’02 BS, ’09 PhD, visited the UI College of Pharmacy on Sept. 23. Wakeman is a Chemistry and Manufacturing Controls (CMC) Senior Project Manager for Ardea Biosciences in San Diego, a member of the AstraZeneca Group.
