The 110 students in the UI College of Pharmacy class of 2020 are spending their first week participating in a host of professional engagement activities.

On Aug. 15, the UI College of Pharmacy welcomed 13 new graduate students to its programs. These students are pursuing advanced degrees in Clinical Pharmaceutical Sciences (CPS), Medicinal and Natural Products Chemistry (MNPC), Pharmaceutical Socioeconomics (PSE), and Pharmaceutics.

​​​​​​​Michelle Fravel, ’06 PharmD, was selected as the recipient of the 2016 College of Pharmacy Award for Teaching Excellence. Fravel is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy with primary teaching roles in Therapeutics, Foundations of Pharmacy Practice and the Pharmacy Practice Lab series.

It may not feel like it outside, but the University of Iowa’s Homecoming celebrations are just around the corner. This year, the College of Pharmacy’s annual activities will be bigger and more significant than ever, and all alumni, faculty, staff, and friends are encouraged to join the fun!

When the 2016 Summer Olympics opened, some of the athletes had a UI College of Pharmacy alumnus to thank for helping them on the road to Rio. Dean Collier, ’87 BSPh, ’91 PharmD, recently used his expertise as the team pharmacist for the U.S. Olympic Swim Trials in Omaha, Neb.

The results of the UI Graduate Education Task Force’s review of PhD programs conducted during the academic year 2015-2016 were recently released. The College of Pharmacy’s graduate program received a “commendable” rating, citing several strong attributes.

Kashelle Lockman recently joined the College of Pharmacy as a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science, working with Associate Professor James Ray, the James A. Otterbeck OnePoint Patient Care Professor in Hospice and Palliative Care.

Mary Ann Cull is an administrative services specialist in the College of Pharmacy, serving as the pharmacist reviewer for the PharmD learning ePortfolio reflections, which help students make the connection between their various learning experiences and how they meet the learning outcomes.

Erika J. Ernst and her team focus on slowing down drug-resistant bacteria, sometimes called "superbugs," through the optimal use of antibiotics.

On  July 19, Emad Wafa successfully defended his master's thesis to the Division of Pharmaceutics and Translational Therapeutics.
